The following events are a few of several that took place from August 17-August 22, 2021 marking Friendship Park's 50th Anniversary.
The events were hosted by Friends of Friendship Park thanks to the generous grant support of the San Diego Foundation and Parker Foundation.

Athenaeum Music & Arts Library
The BUILD THAT PARK! Exhibition opened to the public at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla on August 17, and remains up through September 11 as part of San Diego Design Week.

Bread & Salt Opening
August 18, 2021

The BUILD THAT PARK! Exhibition opened to the public with two guided walk-throughs at Bread & Salt in Barrio Logan on August 18, 2021. The show has come down but remains on view at Athenaeum Music & Arts Library through September 11, 2021.

In observance of the 50th Anniversary of Friendship Park, Friends of Friendship Park were honored to be joined by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, Assembly members Lorena González, Chris Ward and Akilah Weber, County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, and the Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, Carlos González Gutiérrez. On the Mexican side, the Secretary of Economic Development of Tijuana, Gabriel Camarena spoke, and a children’s choir sang “Stand by Me.” Daughter of Tijuana Mayor Karla Ruiz, Valentina Portilla Ruiz, planted a tree on the Mexican side of the Binational Garden of Native Plants.
